The Big Butterfly Count 2025 is taking place this year between 18th July and 10th August.

Butterflies are extremely valuable indicators of the state of the environment and Butterfly Conservation are calling on everyone to get involved and become citizen scientists.

All you need to do is spend 15 minutes in a sunny spot counting the butterflies you see and logging them on the app developed by the Natural Apptitude team. The app is easy to use and everyone who has access to a phone can get involved - it's a particularly great way to inspire children to become engaged in nature spotting. You can do as many Big Butterfly Counts as you like, and what you don't see is just as important as what you do see.

Simply download the free app and start collecting vital data for conservation! The data collected helps Butterfly Conservation not only monitor butterfly populations, but also contributes towards a greater understanding of the effect of climate change on wildlife and how to help mitigate these changes.

This year, Butterfly Conservation has partnered with BBC Countryfile magazine as their exclusive media partner, which will help the project reach new and even larger audiences.
