iRecord Grasshoppers
monitoring the UK's grasshoppers and crickets
for the Biological Records Centre

In the British Isles there are 27 native species of Orthoptera (grasshoppers and crickets) and a number of non-native, naturalised species. This app will help you to identify and record all of them by sight and sound.
ID, record, protect
The app acts as a field guide and also allows for the submission of single and multi-species sightings; the latter enabling you to create surveys of any area. All of your records go to the Grasshoppers and related species Recording Scheme of Britain and Ireland and are individually verified by experts. All of the data we collect is used to help with understanding and conserving the UK’s Orthoptera – so the more records we have the clearer the picture becomes.

A field guide in your pocket
The Species guide features species accounts, identification tips, photos, labelled illustrations and, perhaps most importantly, sound recordings – enabling you to quickly begin to identify grasshoppers and crickets by their distinctive calls.

Expert tips on making an ID
The annotated images, which are provided for each species, will help you to check the most important visual features for making an identification
