iRecord Butterflies
monitoring UK butterfly populations
Butterfly Conservation and the Biological Records Centre

iRecord Butterflies is a free app that will guide you through the identification of any butterfly that you see in the UK and allows you to add your sighting to millions of other valuable records that inform the work of Butterfly Conservation.
A field guide in your pocket
You can record a single butterfly or survey an area. The app is packed full of features and presents the butterflies in a list that represents what you are most likely to see at your location at that particular date. The app features an extensive image library, allows you to filter species by colour, pattern and size, and see distribution maps and gives identification tips for each butterfly.

Helping Butterfly Conservation
By using the app you are adding your butterfly sightings to Butterfly Conservation’s long-running national recording scheme. Such sightings provide the essential foundation for much-needed conservation work to help the UK’s declining butterflies.

Keeping up-to-date
You can keep up-to-date with the results of the project via a series of yearly summary pages generated via iRecord. You can see the summary pages for 2014 and 2015 at the links below:
