You can visit our website and app without identifying yourself or revealing any personal information. If you choose to submit records of butterflies to us you will need to create an account. Accounts are created on Natural Apptitude’s Coreo platform (https://coreo.io/). Records

The Big Butterfly Count enables you to contribute sightings (records) to monitor trends in widespread butterflies and moths and, where necessary, help with their conservation.

Your records will be stored indefinitely and used by the charity Butterfly Conservation in reporting Big Butterfly Count results. They will also be made available to volunteer County Butterfly Recorders as part of the Butterflies for the New Millennium recording scheme, also run by Butterfly Conservation.

Your name forms an important part of each record and will be collated and disseminated with your records. County Recorders may contact you using the email address you have provided in order to check that your records are correct. Records may be collated and disseminated manually or electronically, including via the internet, for conservation, environmental decision-making, education, scientific research and other public benefit uses. Your records (but not your contact details) may be made publicly accessible on the internet. Only those directly involved in running and promoting the Big Butterfly Count and Butterflies for the New Millennium recording scheme will have access to your email address.

Butterfly Conservation comply with data protection legal requirements and are registered under the General Data Protection Regulations 2016 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. Natural Apptitude is registered with the ICO.

Your information will only be shared as laid out above or when there is a specific purpose bound by law or contract, for example to our partner mailing house to send membership renewals or magazines etc. Use of your personal data for this purpose is strictly controlled and you will only ever be sent information from Butterfly Conservation or Butterfly Conservation Trading Ltd subject to legal basis.
